I'm being invited to a virtually free trip to Hawaii for six days and five nights with a premiere hotel chain. The catch is my wife and I must attend a two hour timeshare sale pitch. Although we don't see real benefits with timeshare after googling around, I believe there must be some because otherwise this hotel chain wouldn't invite people with a loss leader. We also see fellow Indian friends I'm working with buying timeshares. So, I'm interested to hear those here on Blind who are timeshare owners share their experience, viz what they like about purchasing a timeshare and how to maximize any potential benefits.
Yeah why not?
Dont do it. My friend got trapped in one and keeps forking money even if he doesnt take vacation. They will hard core pressure you to sign. Most people do.
I take advantage of timeshare offers for discounted accommodation in exchange for a presentation. You don’t have to sign. If you want to buy one, buy one on the secondary market.
Five nights in Hawaii for two hours of your time? What are you waiting for, go pack your stuff, go, go, go! And don't buy the timeshare, no matter how good it sounds it's a scam. The reason you got invited is because a couple of the loosers that happen to be your friends referred you and the "hotel chain" thinks you are an easy catch. Btw, the hotel chain is not the same company as the one selling timeshares
DO NOT BUY! Now that we have the important part done, the companies exist, and throw money or time at you in exchange for sitting through the pitch because once they get their hooks in they'll make it back 10 fold. If you really want one buy the exact same thing from a current owner, there are always plenty of people who want out and will almost hand it to you to get out of the annual fees. The timeshare sales folks are good at what they do, high pressure, etc. good enough that they can convince a few otherwise smart people to join at such a high rate that it covers the cost of all those other trips.
It really, really depends on the timeshare. DVC is excellent if you’re very into Disney. Wyndham Vacation Club is nice if you have a bunch of points (they have funky tiering and some cheap properties in the chain, if you don’t research before booking you can end up in a place that hasn’t been remodeled since Nixon was President.)
Sounds like you own a timeshare :)
It’s a trap. Why would anyone believe you could just invest two hours for huge gain like this? Seriously?!
Time shares still exist? These are often scams.
They will pressure you to purchase almost to the point of kidnapping
Timeshares are the biggest fucking scam in existence
