I'm working with an Azure team in Microsoft, Redmond. I have 2 yoe and came to US for master's. I was initially offered entry level (59) and fought my way with a negotiating offer for SE2 but only got level 60 (SE1). I feel left behind coz many of my friends have been promoted to senior SE over the last 4 years (not in Microsoft, other big companies). My friend from grad school without any work experience negotiated for SE2 offer from Google (ofc I'm happy for her, I'm just feeling left behind). As working employees yourselves, could you guys give my general tips for career growth that you've learned over the years? I've decided to work hard so that my manager considers me for a promotion. Anything else I can do for my side? How does it work in Microsoft? Thanks for reading this. TC: 117/130/20

Try applying to other companies. That’s pretty much the only way to jump levels.
How many years would you recommend working at MSFT? Do you think I should apply to other companies once I get SE 2?
Just start applying now to relevant job openings. No reason to wait. Maybe wait until your year 2 sign on RSU vests but.. other than that just go for it. 2 years is pretty good.
