Started working for a media company 4 months ago. (I come from ad tech) I've realized there are three problem areas looking into the organization 1) the company is going through a lengthy transitional period where some of the top level management (CRO, CMO) and inner departments (sales, marketing) are dropping like flies 2) the company is still trying to figure out the vision and long term success of the company. Keep in mind it's profitable but its not using their resources to their full potential. They're also very traditional in terms of products/systems they use. Bottom line they're throwing money out but having a hard time reeling in their target audience. 3) because of the lack of decision making, there's this toxic environment thats created and everyone is angry/resentful of the company. Even walking into the building every day, no one says good morning or hello. It's very cliquey and everyone gossips about who's next to go. For the newbies like me, it's hard to see the silver lining in all of this especially since I've been in this same situation before. Would you stay in this environment or would you do as much as you could and set a goal for yourself to get out by end of year? How would you handle this situation? Is this type of behavior normal for media companies in general?
If you even get an inkling that it will grow to be a toxic, stressful place for you.... make a plan ASAP and get to a safer place where you'll grow and thrive your personal health is NOT worth it. staying can create expensive health problems. maybe not immediately.... But add enough stress long term and organs start to fail. personal experience, my thyroid and adrenal glands still haven't healed years later
