God damn it I feel like every day we just get have more and more reasons to set up more meetings. It's getting to the point where there are so many meetings I have so little time to actually just sit down and work. Anyone else have this problem?
fellow TrueCar blinder, you need to block off time to do your work. The meeting situation is out of control. You arent alone
That means more layoffs are coming. Block for work. People who attend most meetings will be laid off. Happens in my organization as well.
This is ridiculous. I have no idea what's it's like at your company but that sounds insane.
Also from truecar. As someone else mentioned politely decline the meetings that are unnecessary. Communication is important but some people over use/misuse meetings as a form of communication. I'm guilty of this. In the past people have politely told me a meeting I scheduled probably wouldn't be valuable to them and I agreed. Time was saved and happiness was had.
Oh this is so so true. You get pointless agenda-less meetings all the time. Block off your calendar, ask to decline meetings with no agenda even. There no reason to waste your time if you can be asynchronous.
@xmuC28. I recall the technology leader telling developers if there's no agenda to decline meetings. That should be applied across Tech and Product
Yes. I do two things to combat this issue: 1) I started blocking off time on my calendar to get actual work done to prevent meetings from being scheduled during that time. 2) I started to decline meetings invites that I didn’t feel were beneficial for me to be present in. I will ask a colleague in my department to fill me in afterwards. Nothing worse than a unorganized meeting with no clear purpose or actionable steps to take afterwards. I recently got a promotion which is when my calendar started to get increasing full, and I found that meetings need to be prioritized like other work tasks. Some are mandatory for me to attend, others not so much.
Nothing worse than a disorganized meeting when you have so many important things to tackle. Do you get pushback for declining meeting invites? I like this approach.
Well, at least I'm not alone.
