Recently a google recruiter reached out regarding a software engineer role in tools and infrastructure team. Just wanted to know in general how good these teams are at Google/Facebook Edit: Here is what I mean by good, just wanted to know about these differences between product focused team and tools team if any. 1) Do they get to solve the problems of scalability 2) Any difference in terms of time spent in coding( jus in general) 3) How often do they get a chance to work on new and innovative solutions 4) finally any difference in terms of TC
They are regular SW engineering roles with focus on building tools. The challenges are less product oriented and more coding internals related. Like increasing developer velocity and tools for measuring performance etc. If that doesn’t answer your question, explain what you mean by “good”.
how easy/hard to change the team at Google? especially from tools to product team? thanks.
You will have the one year requirement. After that you can join a different team in SWE capacity. There usually are no interviews. They will ask you to work in a SWE capacity for 3-6 months and if your performance is good the title will be changed to SWE.
