New to blind and first post. Assuming most of the users are young super smart.

What are the chances for 40s personnel who never worked in a top company to get into Amazon / Face Book.. Does the age matter?

I have led Architecture / Engineering / Big Data groups and solid in Cloud / Bug Data areas. Done lot of coding earlier days .

Wondering how I should approach.

Agree. Don’t worry about age. If these guys think you can deliver for them they will take you.

Wondering if mastering one language like python would be sufficient? I have done lot of coding in Python.

Not entirely sure, might depend on the job specifics. This you should get a feel of prior to your interview, in case your resume is selected / whole chatting with recruiter. But Python itself is hot these days.

Lots of experienced dudes in 40s-50s at Amazon doing well and fitting in great. Go for it!

I don't think age matters that much - I have seen both older and younger people at same level with same expectations at FB.

you will be fine. just be yourself and not try to fit a specific mold. people are looking more than you think for diverse backgrounds (i.e. not stanford grads). and don’t listen to a lot of the bullshit on this site it’s mostly kids lying about their salaries.

What I say may not be political correct, but ppl tend to like, or feel comfortable to work with ones similar to themselves. You may have a bigger chance in relative “older” tech companies.

Define “similar” in this context. Many companies skew heavily white and Asian male, but there’s frequently way more diversity in my building at Amazon than anywhere else I’ve been. I see a range of ages and plenty of ethnicities. The common—“similar”—thread is Intelligence, curiosity, open-mindedness, etc.

      What’s your experience at Apple?

When I say “similar”, I do mean factors including intelligence, curiosity, open mindedness, ..., anything that could influence the judgement on whether he/she can fit in to the team. Seeing diversity does not necessarily means all candidates of such profile get hired. How to decide which one to hire if both candidate is qualified but there’s only one open?

It's illegal for companies to consider age for recruiting, only whether you fit the profile. Having said that growth trajectory matters a bit because that shows your ability to take bigger challenges over time. Don't worry about it, just prepare well and ace the interviews.

It’s all in your head; go for it. What you bring is experience, gut instinct, and innovative capabilities far beyond those with less experience can bring to bear.

Most of the top companies don't care about how good are you at a language, as long as you can solve algorithms/data structures, you are golden. Leetcode is a interview preparation website if you are not aware off, but if you know blind, you would know it.

Also as a customary here, would you mind your current role and total compensation?
