I am looking for spacious car. My brain says go with Santa fe because of space with less expensive and my heart says go with Rav4 because of reliability/resale value/mpg. Need another brain and heart to break this tie.
Are you going to sell it later? Or keep it until it dies. That answers about the resale value question.
rav4 hybrid gets like 40mpg, and it’s way better looking. on the other hand, hyundai reliability is way better than before, and they come with a 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. have you considered a vw tiguan? better mpg than the santa fe and more cargo room. more fun to drive and a 6yr/72k mile bumper to bumper warranty on 2019s. cheaper than the santa fe as well.
RAV4 looks are debatable. Those plastic moldings look cheap quality. Puny 17 inch wheels even on XLE. No Android auto. But on the other hand, fantastic mpg with hybrid engine, Highly reliable which makes forget the cosmetic issues.
It seems Tiguan second row is smaller than Santa Fe
Any reason you are not considering Honda CR-V?
Second row is smaller than Santa Fe
Neither, buy Subaru
i have a santa fe. i got the highest trim and it's equipped with so many technologies including Bird Eye view camera, smart cruise control, auto adjusting high beam, forward collision warning and automatic stop, etc.

I work for a rental company and we have both models in our fleet. They both have very cheap feeling interiors, but the Toyota carpet is the worst in the industry. Tears and big holes form faster than any other manufacturer I’ve ever seen. The infotainment is better in the SantaFe if that matters to you; Toyota is very far behind the times with current tech. With that said, mechanically, I prefer the Rav4 over a Santa Fe even with Hyundai’s excellent warranty. Hyundai is currently recalling an enormous amount of vehicles for engine recalls.
The Rav
