Trade war (China) - for nothing?

Just a curious question to understand the general emotions here. My thoughts - we all know how difficult is it for foreign companies to survive in China, while China pushes their business beyond boundaries easily! I know it's hurting at the moment, but somebody had to step in at some point! I'm not a Trump supporter, but feel like, for once he initiated something not completely BS?

Also, while China uncensored highlights facts about CCP, what I don't like is when they start pointing on general citizen/people habits, etc! I believe CCP != Chinese citizens. It's not common for China uncensored, but they do at times.
I'm in support of having something that results in trade balance with China, but, this post was more about seeing what's the general consensus here...

Pretty sure most people on blind don’t really like China but don’t really have a good idea of why. Nothing wrong with Chinese people per se, but they are plagued by CCP which instills a horrible culture and very narrow worldview in their citizens. They (CCP) are basically running a (less competent) 1984 playbook.

Yes, agreed on the narrow worldview part! I've met some amazing chinese folks out there, but also have noticed this part.

Most of Blind comments are posted by Indians. With so many hate posts on Chinese by Indians, I feel Chinese are hated the most by Indian posters of Blind. I don’t think I have seen any other nationalities writing badly about Chinese here except one post by an Israeli(he claimed).

@Shhebdj You've overlooked something crutial here - it's about the CCP policies and not citizens!! Love it or hate it, Chinese protectionism is a fact! So, the issues in focus aren't only with US but most of the countries that China trades with (including India). But, Trump is the first one who took actions. No matter how much I/we hate him, he did it!

@Weird Soul, I agree that many Americans don’t like China but you agreed to the narrow view parr which is a classic racism. Change that to Indian or Turkish and say “caste” or “religion” made them keep discriminating the people who are less fortunate or ... ready for shock.. terrorist mindset! See how the logic can play out? @Ghskann generalized the whole Chinese and you agree to the narrow world view.

I am not sure why you explained me about protectionism of the country. I didn’t mention any of that part. I agree Chinese protectionism is strong. That is a known fact even high schooler know so I don’t see the point. No one denies it. In fact, every developing country does it. Many countries do that and I applaud Trump for bold move on that. He knows how to deal with countries that don’t behave right. You have to also understand though that protectionism is standard for developing countries and many developed nations allow to some degree intentionally as otherwise they can’t grow.

@CRtl, please read before reply directly. I didn’t mention China. Lots of Americans hate China but more percentage of tech people from India hates Chinese people than general public. That is my observation. You might be just another Indian hating China (and Chinese), promoting hate speech towards a particular group. It is ironic these types of people (not all Indians but just type of person like this) tend to complain about Americans and bash them as lazy etc yet stay here despite complaint about unfair immigration policy.

@Shhebdj: Man, it was just a political discussion related to trade war, and you've made it about if Indians hate Chinese!

Your title is right. We had a trade war with China for nothing. They are hurting, we are hurting and all for nothing.

So much pain and hurting in this world. Why can’t we all get along?

We can’t all get along because that’s an utterly naive and privileged question, and people will choose to smash you with their boot over being your friend.

  • If we want to compete with China we probably shouldn’t have made ourselves utterly dependent on them

At least we made them even more dependent on us as well.

Yeah Chinese protectionism and IP theft was a bipartisan issue up until recently. Even Sanders brought it up during the last election IIRC.

Then people got swept up in the Orange Man Bad/Good slapfight and forgot all about it.

Think it's more Trump's approach than intent. He yolo'ed into this without much of a plan and now US businesses are caught in the crossfire as collateral damage. He doesn't have a handle on this and never did, and for someone in his position to jump in without looking first is highly irresponsible if not reckless.

I doubt it. I’m sure he’s following advice and plans from his top advisors and experts.

Taking advice from US experts was one of the major points he campaigned on.

There can be a whole separate thread on his "advisors". But strictly from a common sense perspective, if you are going to on a large project or task, does it not make sense to have a relatively robust action plan?
      Dec 4
    • Amazon / EngGHskann
I’m sure his action plan is robust, and to me common sense would say it’s silly to not think so.

Appealing to common sense isn’t a strong argument, is what I’m pointing out.
