Hello Blinders, I'm looking to transition from an FAE role to a Product Management/ Marketing role. My background is with design and verification in the semiconductor industry as a individual contributor and manager. However most PdM roles insist on prior PdM exp or an MBA. Appreciate any tips and suggestions on how to crack the market?
Product candidates for me needs to prove 2 things: 1) technical knowledge of the thing we are doing. This does not mean be an engineer, rather be able to talk to engineers and keep up with industry information. 2) Business acumen. Need to understand basics of business, like financials, procurement strategy, and market. You can prove these in a variety of ways but an MBA helps with the second. It certainly is not the only way to prove business knowledge though.
Were you able to switch Op?
MBA is useless
