Hi everyone! First and foremost, thank you for taking the time read my post. Let’s get down to business! I’m looking to transition into a career in a tech related field, whether it be software development, data analytics, programming, coding, etc etc. I’ve been in the banking field my entire career and want to make the switch. I have no technical experience in any of the above mentioned niches. To get my feet wet in the tech world, what do you guys recommend doing? Taking a course? Learning a program? Etc etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day!
Why tech? What interests you? How old are you? How much time are you willing to put in? You’re in banking now, but in what capacity? Where are you? My best advice is to find friends you can talk to who are in the tech industry. It’s such a broad category that really I don’t even know where to start and the advice I would give would be very specific to what you want to be able to do.
Just go become an investment banker
Ah, the signs of a bubble. But more seriously, do a master's degree in cs for people without a cs background - like at the University of Chicago or Pennsylvania. 2-year master's will probably increase your odds of getting into one of the good ones because you'll be able to intern, but may not be necessary.
You can try joining the finance department of tech companies - then shadow other departments and take courses to see if you really like coding.
