Travelling on OPT
Is it safe to travel outside US when you have 3 months left on your initial OPT? Can you be denied entry just because you have a certain duration left on OPT? I am planning to Apple for STEM extension once I am back.
Don’t travel unless it’s an emergency- you really want to bet your career on a USCIS officer who might be cap-wearing MAGA guy?
Do you think the officer can deny entry because of short duration left on OPT?
Officer can even throw out your visa based on their discretion. It’s always a risk.
If you have already applied for stem, do not travel.

First apply for STEM, then travel. I was in a same boat last year. I applied just before 1 week of traveling. Don’t risk by traveling without applying.
Was it stem extension or initial OPT?
I was on initial Opt. I applied for stem before traveling. Carry 765 form too.
So you travelled after applying for stem extension but before receiving the extension card?
No didn't travel.
You should apply 3 months ahead...

It's not exactly three months. Usually you get an approval in around 70 days..
