Travelling to canada with expired h1b stamp, approved extension i797 and change in employee

Does anyone have experience of traveling to Canada and returning to Seattle with expired h1b stamp but approved 797 extension? I understand 30 day automatic validation rule gets applied. But I also have change in employer. So my visa stamp belongs to my previous employer and 797 belongs to current employer.

I went to Mexico once and came back through Automatic Visa Revalidation. But my employer was same on expired visa and new I797. My advise would be to check with you lawyers, and also call the port of entry where you want to enter United States back. I did the same and confirmed with them. I also took with me all original immigration related documents.

Yes, a visa is needed to travel to
Mexico if your H1B stamp has expired, even if you have valid extension documents. Make an appointment at the consulate and apply.

Some consulates allow walk-in. Check with your nearest Mexican consulate and share here please.

Sorry this made me laugh. @OP how can you enter US with an expired visa? ๐Ÿ˜‚ 797 is NOT a visa.

    • Dude, don't be such a jerk. Especially an ignorant one, I94 reissuance is different when travelling to Canada and Mexico so this is an entirely valid question.

As long as you travel by land, expired visa doesnt matter with valid i797
