Trump & Silicon Valley

Do you think people here in Silicon Valley hide their pro-Trump views out of fear of being judged? I feel like that. But if the point of liberalism is to allow freedom of thoughts, why are people afraid to express their feelings? Sometimes I wonder, has the pendulum swag the other way? It’s the same feeling that an Obama supporter might have in Mississippi. Am I over thinking or does anyone else feel me? For the record, I’m not pro Trump. I don’t like his views at all (he’s the reason that my brother’s wife had immigration issues) but I won’t shut down people that support him...

You’re overthinking it. Ostracized applies to everything. No one likes to be the person who stands out.

Saw a pro-Trump sign right next to SJC

Sadly, many liberals are only tolerant of those who think like them.

Does a lot of conservatives tolerate liberals?

Uber sight Oct 19, 2018

I think the intolerance cuts both ways. But take college campuses for example. Conservative speakers frequently get shut down. This does not happen with liberal speakers.

So many threads about this. If you follow the blind polling, 25% of blind is pro trump. Yet 1:4 of my coworkers don’t remotely resemble this affinity. Therefore it’s likely they are suppressing their political opinions.

Or that blind disproportionately attracts the racist, bigoted and mercenary among the population due to its anonymity.

Apple eurp31 Oct 19, 2018

Possible, but I think if you give people a mask, they will tell you the truth about how they feel. But TC focuses people tend to be on blind, so it could very well be skewed towards selfish a-holes? As a fiscal conservative who is socially liberal, I keep my opinions to myself. I don’t think broadcasting your political views in the work place really has any value. I offer my opinion when asked to contribute to a discussion, but I stay away from politics in general, because what benefit will it serve me politically in my career? Will it help my deliverable? Will it help my TC. Not really. That’s why I sort of roll my eyes at the republicans who feel like they have to stay in the closet at work. Dude, it’s for the best. Unless you work for the NRA, what do you stand to benefit from being obnoxiously loud about your politics? Keep your firmly held political beliefs at home. Keep the work place light. Life is better this way.

I fear to express both my anti-SJW views and my anti-Trump views at work.

As a Republican and pro trump, I’ll be happy to “come out” if someone asks me. But most people won’t. There are a lot of people who just pretend to go along with the liberals because it’s easier. The liberals are incredibly intolerant, and won’t be tolerant or even care to hear your views. As I’m reminded, they are only “intolerant of intolerance.” Biggest cop out.
