What do yall think about today’s speech he made about immigration? If it is passed by Congress it might become a system like Canada PR which might benefit tons of people waiting on green card Or This is a very smart trump campaign move to entice voters
@kaambhari very low chances that it will pass, Democrats will block it
I know. That’s the bad part. What do democrats gain out of by blocking? Vote bank?
If Trump actually wanted this to be law he would have been negotiating with Pelosi. Since he's not, this is just political theater. He has no intention of trying to make a deal.
It won’t be passed by Congress There is a strong lobby supported by Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple and other tech companies to continue current system. They have bought politicians, mostly democrats This is how they can ensure invisible slavery to hold employees as long as they want without paying market salary I have lost all hopes in these reform efforts Don’t have false hopes, just ignore and enjoy your life
Irony is the companies you have mentioned pay higher than market salary in general. It is the Indian body shops that taint the name of h-1b
Evidence? I suspect all those companies would back a merit based system. They had been lobbying in favor of expanding the current system not because they opposed merit but because they don't think there's a real option to overhaul everything. If there is I suspect they will strongly back a points system.
For the first time I support Trump. Not only is the plan good for immigrants but its also good for America. One must also think that if countries like UK, Australia, Canada, NZ all have the points system, there must be some merits. I hope Democrats will see this and it passes congress
Amen
There’s a lot of things to support Trump on if you can escape the deafen echo chamber of the left. Trump supporters in general support LEGAL immigration especially merit based immigration. We don’t need to import the world’s poor and undesirables as we have enough of our own to take care of.
Democrats don't want to hold immigrants to a higher standard because they think immigrants can't achieve it.
I don't even think you know what you mean
It’s true, it’s called the soft bigotry of lowered expectations. Democrats think we need to lower the bar because minorities aren’t capable of competing because x, y, and z while Republicans believe everyone has the ability to achieve if given the opportunity regardless of ethnicity.
My opinion: it's all talk, no action. They have not made any attempt to negotiate with Congressional Democrats on the topic which means they don't actually intend for it to become law. If they were serious they would be negotiating an immigration deal with Pelosi. Since they are not doing that, this is just political theater.
If he wanted this passed why did he not do it in the 2 years Rs had total of congress?
Trump is useless
This will not be passed. A lot of lawyers, law firms will be out of business.
This
Lawyers are, fortunately, nobody in the Hill. That's not the reason. The real reason it won't pass is what others have said, it isn't bipartisan. Any bill at this point that's not bipartisan can't pass. That's precisely because Dems hold house. A passable bill would have these characteristics: 1) Pelosi meets Trump with Schumer and agree to form a bipartisan group of 8 senators or house members to work on a bill 2) trump caves in not only on DACA, but also some version of DAPA. 3) trump caves in on wall and instead starts harping on smart borders. 4) Dems cave in on increasing beds and or Judges. 5) Dems cave in on seeking asylum in Mexico. Some more of Dems and Trump giving up something. Then coming out in public and calling it a joint R and D bill. Each issue a press statement saying they managed to get lot of winning 💪😂 Ok, I need to stop drinking.
It makes sense business wise, but still, I wouldn’t trust it
Cuz da big bad orange man, right?
