4 years working experience. Received offer of 175k salary, 30k signing, 15% bonus in SF. Options, whatever. Series B, financial analytics. Worked at GS, left, not a fit. have had a new job every year or so. I can’t get a job in NYC. I have been to like 10 onsites. I have enough experience to know that I am crushing it, and my reasons for being rejected were things like: 1. Startup “We wish you were as passionate about our startup as you were about some of your hobbies.” 2. “Going in different direction, removing role.” 3. Multiple others had no response. Should I take the SF offer and move? Tired of trying for New York and getting bullshit feedback like that. Recruiters ping me positions with salaries of 120k which is less than what I made at my last job (145). :/
Not sure if Seattle is on your list, but it might be worth checking it out. Things are not as expensive as Bay Area
Don’t expect it to be easier in SF
What did you not like about gs?
You log into a windows 7 environment. Slow ass machines. Unoriginal work tbh. There’s no PM on some teams so you are also that. Cheap, no perks like snacks and stuff. It’s just not a good place to practice software. No one really cares. And yet the hours are long because there’s a fuckton of meetings. Like, a lot. Eh. The gym is nice though in 200 West. Lack of transparency around bonus. My manager said I should get little, my recruiter said I should get X.
Come to Seattle
Why not try to get into quant or prop trading firms in nyc? You could easily be making 225k+ pre bonus
Rusty math skills?
If you’re happy with the offer move out here. You won’t miss the cold.
Here's no BS. Obviously GS sucks if you're a good developer but you can't say you crushed it when you went 0 for 10. At 4 years you should have interviewed candidates yourself so you know a rejection is simply because others performed better. Take the SF offer, I feel like you already made up your mind anyway and just needed to vent about the interview process. Yes, it sucks but that's just how it is. Also if 145k is your current TC then you should definitely leave since new hires with 0 yoe makes like 120 to 130k tc.
True.New hire compensation at GS ... 110k base + 35 joining bonus + yearly bonus
Thought it was 100 + 35. Or did they bump it to 110 this year?

Stop targeting startups, lots of smaller public tech companies in the Bay Area that are growing fast and will let you make 200-250 TC
Can you give me some names? I am not familiar with the Bay Area landscape.
