Google - TAM L5 in GTech (E ladder): base - 185K equity - 150K bonus - 15% did not try to negotiate sign-on yet since not sure will take it, mainly because it would be less technical that I want and I did not yet qualify for O ladder (need to grind Leetcode more) VMWare - Staff Level 1 base - 225K equity - 225K bonus - 17% sign-on - need to negotiate I am trying to push this to Staff Level 2, since I bring some critical skills to the team Instacart (not yet IPO) - they have 5 levels for SWE, I am coming in at 4 base - 186K, but can raise to 206K by trading in some equity equity - 580K at current valuation, net stock option value, stock refresher every 2 yrs bonus - none sign-on - 20K I am mainly trying to decide b/w VMWare and Instacart. I've seen Instacart does not get much love on Blind but I have researched them a lot and feel they have a fighting chance of success. The work at Instacart seems a tad more interesting but VMWare is also pretty good. Total 13 YOE in my career.
VMware is so lame, they have 0 interesting projects. And on top of that all the Dell bs hanging on it!
is that equity is per year?
all equity over 4 yrs, pretty standard vesting
Equity seems low for 4 years. Refresher every year?
225k base for eng? That is unheard of!
Show Google the other offers, regardless what they come with after that I'd go with the big G for resume alone
Instacart would be the way to go
What’s the 409a valuation of those instacart shares? That’s another data point you can use to value them. The instacart offer seems highest. Do they do refreshers? Bonuses? Which team has the most interesting work? What’s going to make you more valuable ? Good luck
Work is definitely most interesting at Instacart. The stock I have written is net value of options at current 409a valuation. Refresher every 2 yrs
I’d be happy to buy some instacart shares at 409a as I’m sure many others would be too. You could almost consider those shares liquid. I’d go with instacart in a heartbeat. You don’t want to be working at a 20 year old company. Like Netflix. 😉😉
VMware. Obviously
Would like to understand why its obvious
Lot of BUs having talent exodus and or no customer base at VMW so make sure you watch out
Does TAM stand for technical account manager? Isn't that a different role than software engineer?
Yes
Were you in that role prior? How did you end up interview for it instead of eng

What team in VMware or which BU ?
Prefer not to say if you dont mind
Many BU are struggling.. no good products in pipeline .. NSX seems to be doing good for now but after 1 year not so sure about that also .. I would suggest taking the company situation also into account .. if you have any friends in VMware talk to them before taking offer with VMware
