I am working at Amazon Seattle since last 3 years. Want to move to SF/Bay area to be closer to my GF working at FB, MPK.. I don't want to continue working for Amazon teams, so, I spoke to a manager at Twitch, just to have one offer in hand to speed up my move... Received an offer from them. No change in TC though. I m interviewing with Cruise automation as well. Cleared phone interview.. Not sure it's worth while going through thier on-site.. What do you guys think about Cruise vs Twitch?? Both are in SF and I am looking to work/stay in SF.. my GF also likes to stay in SF.. she is willing to take FB shuttle to travel.. I don't want to join FB so not trying there.. we both think it's not a good idea to work in same company.. Just to give you guys a perspective, I rejected Salesforce offer for Lead MTS as I think their tech stack is too old.. (that's what I think, not trying to offend anyone)... During interviews I realized that they were trying to solve problems which were already resolved in the industry.. also their TC was bit lower.. after all negotiations they offered TC of $270k... Note: For few curious mind, my current TC is $290+k with all stock price appreciation... Work experience: 5 years. SDE 2
Would you rather change the future of transportation, or help people too lazy to play video games themselves watch showoffs play video games? I got a negative vibe when I interviewed at Twitch phone + online tech challenge (didn't come on site.) That said, the volume of livestreaming they do IS pretty cool from a tech challenge sense. Really liked Cruise. Got an offer, nearly took it. TC would have been slightly higher than where I eventually joined. Tech stack was a little disjointed but loved the problems they were trying to solve. Seemed like a fast place pace, but everyone there said WLB was decent.
Also if you're at Amazon already couldn't you just transfer to a Bay Area team and keep your current options?
Where are you at now if you don’t mind sharing? I’m also considering Cruise.
You done fucked up rejecting Salesforce, most people to leave Twitch go there for 1.5 times the pay and zero times the headaches.
My TC is much higher considering Amzn stock appreciation... I still have lots of old stocks which will vest in a year..
Is Twitch considered a transfer where you keep your stock?
Why not go to twitch and get your last 40% stock? Once you are in sf a lot more options will open up to you
Twitch is not a bad option at all. There are some really challenging and interesting work. Not all teams are the same. That’d be the case even if you go to Google/FB. In fact, google has a lot more boring/crappy teams with proven employees take up most interesting problems. Twitch on the other hand still has a lot of opportunities. I can’t conmment about Cruise. Most people complain about Twitch is usually the Amazon comp structure. But if you’ve amazon stock and don’t mind the structure, you’ll have interesting problems for sure.
Do you know anything about GraphQL API team?
Had the same option and went with Twitch. 0 regrets
Do you play games? Twitch Do you have an interest in transportation? Cruise Pretty simple
Cruise. If the Twitch org is Creator Experience or Commerce, then there’s a small chance you might enjoy your team and work. Otherwise 70% chance you’ll join a dumpster fire
Cruise. No doubts.. it's difficult to get promo or salary hikes or good RSU refreshers at Twitch.... I received 0% base pay increase and 0 RSUs refresher back in April review cycle with exceeds expectation rating..... No additional RSU refresher was expected due to Amazon policy.... but 0% base pay increase?? Seriously Twitch?? I am not even worth a percentage more than last year... I am looking outside as well.. Cruise is in my targeted companies list..
Cruise, twitch isnt doing much these days and arent they having issues of their own with layoffs and losing money constantly for amazon?
Agree.. but just to be fair, Cruise is not making money as well.. they might be losing at faster rate with no revenue...
Cruise is a long term bet inside GM. If TC is a concern, have you considered Google? Or Twitter?
