I agree with Jack. I think Jones is a fuck face who offers nothing in good faith to public discourse. But if he violates the TOC of a platform, he deserves to be kicked off. Otherwise, he’s still in.

I am interested in learning how Twitter is preventing crap tweets from being artificially amplified. Maybe FB should tune in to the details.

Why would it be uninformed to assume the CEO made a statement that is demonstrably untrue about their own platform, with substantial evidence? If AJ is in clear violation, then not kicking him would be a bit dubious.

Do you feel Twitter is being too lenient with the content they allow?

What’s a crap tweet? What details should FB tune into?
What justifies censorship in the absence of direct threats?
You either believe in free speech, or you do not. You should tolerate speech even if you disagree because the alternative is a far more despicable culture of repression.
I don’t give a fuck about Alex Jones, his hysterical rants, or whatever freeze dried lasagna he’s trying to sell me today. But I will always defend his right to his freedom to speech.
(Also, I think people greatly overestimate the influence of Facebook and Twitter. They are nothingburgers in the grand scheme of things.)

Tell that to the pizzagate imbeciles who are still being fueled from FB to the point that even the fake news authors are puzzled at how their shit still circles the globe. Sorry but there’s idiots everywhere. I will fight for any public discourse of any content that’s made in good faith. Types like AJ are absolutely not making their speech in good faith. They are purely entertainers looking to get rich by spewing lies and hate to boost their brand, speaking fees, and to sell shit. And if that violate a TOC, they can fuck right off. ownership has its privileges. Free speech is to protect yourself from ramifications from the government. Not private businesses or other people.

If people like Sarah Jeong get to stay, then nobody should have a problem with Alex being there.

That’s ridiculous, @ijyA68. Can you point to a single example of harmful behavior that has resulted from anything Jeong said? The debate here is only happening because Jones has unquestionably initiated a massive campaign of harassment and intimidation which has even spread offline and resulted in legal actions, etc. The intimidation of the Sandy Hook families is the most obvious example. The one thing that we all agree with Jack on is that the policies should be based on behavior and consequences, not just speech itself. Jeong spoke her mind, you may not agree with that but no one is alleging that harmful actions and behavior came from that. It is hard for me to see how anyone drawing that parallel is arguing in good faith. Either you are speaking without being aware of any of the readily available facts, or you know the facts and you’re intentionally trying to pollute and degrade the conversation, in which case it’s a good thing you don’t work at a conversation-oriented company!

Here is a fact: Sarah Jeong wondered on her Twitter feed if a certain race of people was genetically predisposed to living underground like “groveling goblins”. You say she was just harmlessly “speaking her mind”. I say this is obviously hateful. Can you point to something equally hateful on AJ’s social media? How has Twitter concluded that Sarah Jeong’s race-hating and cop-hating tweets have had no consequences? Why is she allowed to keep her blue check?

    • She was mocking Andrew Sullivan’s actually racist rhetoric

      Right ;-).

    • If you drop your monocle in your glass over “groveling goblins” you’re probably missing a lot more!

Yes, I agree. There were many more racist, hateful, and anti-cop tweets.

Once again, I think we all agree regardless of political leaning that the important thing is to balance the protection speech while preventing real-world harm caused by intentionally harmful speech. You might say that Jeong’s words were “hateful” (putting aside the fact that a few tweets at one point in the distant past obviously are not a valid comparison against the core of someone’s entire lifelong career) but as I asked before, can you point to any hint or suggestion that they may have led to violent and destructive behavior in the real world? That’s the standard here, not “someone said something I don’t like”. People are going around shooting in pizza restaurants and all kinds of other violent acts based on things they heard on Infowars and its allies. Can you point to any evidence that anyone is going around being violent because of a couple of tweets from Jeong?

And yes. If you’re getting your panties in a twist over words like “groveling goblins” you’re a real snowflake :-)
