Are UI engineers paid lower than the corresponding backend / infra engineers ? I don’t think Vmware discriminates but I do certainly get a feeling that the backend developers and managers , tech writers and everybody else considers front end easier job.
Not at Facebook. Same career expectations, same pay, same challenging work
Exactly, I find the UI work in my project very challenging. In fact the backend work is pretty basic. But we are using latest frameworks and problem solving techniques in the UI . However, I feel many people consider UI to be something less than the backend. And easier. I feel the backend work in my project is fairly basic.
Frontend should pay more because you have to relearn everything every 3 years! Fuck this shit!!!
The supply of front engineers is likely higher because the barrier for entry for JavaScript is much lower than C or scala for distributed or embedded systems, for example. I also think the work is far more visible as a front end engineer (obviously), which might lead to greater supply.
Can confirm, UI ppl are considered less important in Vmware.
What were the interview topics/questions/rounds for ui engineer?
In my experience on the pay side, I have not seen UI/Front End Engineers compensated less than Back End Engineers.
