Does anyone know numbers for level 4 or 5a for Uber ATG in Pittsburgh? Is it unreasonable to ask for $160k for base and $75k for stock? 6.5 years of experience including Tech Lead title for 3+ years.
Thanks mogdif. Got the ok from the recruiter. Am still waiting for the formal offer to find out if it is 4 or 5a. RegX, do you have actual numbers? Glassdoor and Paysa have some ranges but too few data points for Pittsburgh (10 or so only)
Level 4 Pittsburgh 160k base sounds about right
Got the offer. Level 5a in Pittsburgh. 165k base + 650k/4 in RSU. Should I negotiate for more if this is more like an offer for level 4?
Which team are you in if you don't mind me asking. You could negotiate if you can contribute on the core autonomy stack. For offboard infrastructure I am not so sure.
I was hired a while back but I’m a 5a at 150k base and 550k/4. Your offer looks about the same as what I would expect and also if you are moving to PA for this you are going to love how cheap living is here.
Haha thanks. Yeah I liked the team and everything. And Pittsburgh seems cheaper than both SF and Seattle. Do most Uber folks rent or buy houses?
Yeah it is crazy cheap I’m living in the best area of PA in a large two bedroom for 1400 a month. It’s about 50/50 but it seems like most people who have the ability to buy do. Generally people are expecting housing prices to continue to keep going up in price for a while as more companies come to Pittsburgh. Let me know if you have any questions during your move or when trying to figure out what the good places to live are.
@YLYm87, accepted the ATG offer yesterday. Super excited to join!
Cool, I hope I can join too

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
For 4 that might be on the high end, for 5a you maybe can do a bit better, assuming salaries there are the same as SF and Seattle.
That’s a big (and terribly wrong) assumption ... expect at least 25% difference - for junior levels, it increases more at senior levels
I was under the impression that our salaries were adjusted to countries, not cities. I know salaries are the same for Seattle and SF. I also figured that you’d have to pay a bit of a premium relative to cost of living to get most engineers to move to Pittsburgh. It’s not exactly a top tier city from a quality of life perspective for most people.
