Uber Palo Alto

I got a call for Uber on-site for networking software engineer position. I m contemplating whether to go or not as hiring manager mentioned to me that the position is actually in San Francisco but not in Palo Alto. I live around Sunnyvale and prefer to avoid commute to SF. He did mention that I can work for few days a week from Palo Alto office. I m little skeptical about this. Does anyone has similar experience? How flexible is Uber culture to accommodate.

Ask the recruiter to change to a PA team.
You don't want to work in a shithole city unless it pays 1M per yr.

They have only one networking team. So there is no team in Palo Alto. I agree with shithole and 1M though 😂

Take it. The software networking team are the best group of engineers I’ve ever worked with.

The whole team is incredibly solid. I moved to a different area of the company that better aligned with my interests, but not a day has passed that I don’t wish I had any one of them (or all) on my current team.

PM me if you want any more info as I can’t PM you.

Thanks for the information. Even work would be good as per hiring manager’s work description. The concern is about the commute from Sunnyvale to San Francisco every day.

My team does split time with Palo Alto. It overall tends to be no big deal

Do they agree for such a split with more days at PA ? Which team are you in, if you can share?

I am shocked how American define "great".
I know American "OK" means fuking sucks and "good" means barely acceptable and "great" means acceptable.
Still how's 2 hours drive per day round trip commute plus paying city parking acceptable? Or even worse spending 3 - 4 hours on disgusting public transit?

I live in Mountain View and commute to SF 3-4 days a week and spend 2 days in Palo Alto.

Typically, the senior managers and engineers work out of Palo Alto on Friday’s. So it’s a good day to be there to have 1:1s with more senior people.
