Considering an offer from Uber. Is the culture as cut-throat and misogynistic as portrayed in the media? Any change (positive/negative) with the new CEO? Product Management. SF office. Thanks, fellas! 😉
New CEO that has a zero tolerance policy for anything that even remotely smells like harassment
There are fewer women for sure, but that is all of Silicon Valley’s problem. Did not see any misogyny
Haven't seen any bad stuff happening. Mostly smart and reasonable people around.
It’s disgusting that Uber has forced arbitration for people that have been sexually assaulted. There have been calls to change this for a while, but Dara has still not dealt with it. https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/18/uber-whistleblower-susan-fowler-backs-california-legislation-to-end-forced-arbitration/
It is a standard policy adopted by many companies incl. google, Lyft. There must be reasons for that.
I think you would lose that bet: https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/19/technology/microsoft-sexual-harassment-arbitration.html Also, Uber is driving kids and women around. Most tech companies just ship bits
It's probably google like now after that huge lawsuit.
No way. Google has good wlb. It still toxic at Uber, just not quite as toxic.
Why move away from Netflix? Curious about Netflix culture, is it really like what's written in the culture deck?
Netflix might be better than Uber... Why did you want to move?
Op, I completely understand the concern. The company described in Susan’s blog and the NYT sounds awful, but the media’s narrative has no relation to reality. What happened to Susan was awful, and I despise how our HR handled it, but you can’t conflate one person’s story with the experience of 20,000 hardworking, smart, and really respectful people. The lawyer representing the others suing for harassment has even publicly said that it is not at all as the media has portrayed. https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2018-04-10/uber-harassment-complaints-not-so-terrible-says-women-s-lawyer I would bet all my RSUs (4 years worth) that if you joined you would be nothing but impressed by the caliber of your colleagues.
The lawyer said that to get their paga settlement approved. I know the women. They are representatives, not clients. They were fucking pissed about this.
The number one issue is this, nobody but higher ups know whether the harrassment policy is taken seriously. Nobody else knows whether an investigation was taken, nobody knows whether a suitable punishment was meted out properly. There is no independent inspector general or ombudsman at Uber. So all you have is trust. Just remember trust takes time to develop and don't think because you are some fancy pants you cannot be conned haha.
20-25 people were fired after the audit last year.

Cut-throat? - Yes. Misogynistic? - Hell No
Not misogynistic? Then I’m curious what the hell that Susan Fowler chick is talking about? And all these girls filing sexual harassment cases? Seriously asking, tough to wrap my head around that. Well, I guess it’s a good thing for you, dude. Travis is now out and you got a dang sweet gig.
Netflix, that was a long time ago at this point.
