Honestly I expected worse. This should be encouraging news for all Uber FTEs!

Encouraging how? Anyone who joined Uber the last 3 years got RSUs at $48.

      Trading now at $44.

3 years of hard work for literally no upside...

Seriously who did the FMV math in the past. They should be punished.

Does it matter when they can’t sell for 6mo anyway?

They also got a bigger initial grant, so it's still better than joining a public company.

@Guiliani no one did the math incorrectly. The $48 was what private investors were willing to pay. Now public investors are saying the company is worth less than that.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the strategic and financial decisions made by the leadership over the past few years that ultimately did not increase the company’s value.

When did Uber switch from Options to RSUs? At what price?
      May 10
    • Uber yoyo7
Early 2015 was the switch at about $22 something 409a. People were told the preferred price in offers by recruiters although, which was about 1.3x more in value. In late 2015 to 2016, offers dropped a lot, in 2017 and 2018 they went up again.

How many options were offered just before. And how many RSUs after?

It hopefully fares better than Lyft over 6 months from IPO. Lyft employees owe shit ton in taxes since their stock tanked 40 per cent since IPO.

This part I don't understand. I thought Lyft gives out rsu and you get taxed on the vesting day based on value in that day. How IPO would increase tax liability (ignoring stocks vesting since IPO).

Tax liabilities are reported to IRS as the company goes IPO. It is either captial lose or gain afterwards.

That sucks. So Uber is actually protecting employees by pricing it lower at IPO.

Because company usually withholds less than your actually tax rate. For federal tax it can be 21% vs 37% so you can owe a lot of tax on IPO.

So what about someone who signed but hasn’t started yet? Do they just take the IPO price to value the RSUs?

They usually look at a trailing average I believe

Even if it settles down at 35 or so eventually, how many of Uber developers become millionaires? I know there could be lock-in period but still - I didn't know on average how much stock refresher Uber gives each year..

Nowadays the comp isn’t anything special. Around 2014-2016 was a different story.

i think there was a window in early 2017 when the susan fowler thing happened too

Around 2014-2015 Uber was giving out real golden handcuffs to get people to stay. There were constant complaints on Blind about the WLB and issues there

You had to be early 2015 to get the good offers, mid / late 2015 was not nearly as good. Mid / late 2015 L5 is definitely not a millionaire after tax

Good thing is atleast it's not paper money anymore. Most even good startups dont have liquidity events.
