Uber driver charged me for a “lost item” when he didn’t even leave yet

I used Uber and left an item behind. The driver immediately saw that I left it, so he shouted at me that I left the item when I moved a few steps away, and he walked out of the car to give it back to me. The whole thing took less than 10 seconds, and he hadn’t even left the spot yet at that point. The next day, i got an email from Uber that I got charged for $15 lost item return fee. I tried to appeal, but they responded with some kind of generic response that I’m not even sure if it’s automatic or not that any time off from road is a costly experience for a driver.

Do you think this is a reasonable charge? :( Have you had any experience arguing about this kind of fee in Uber?

  • No, this seems unreasonable. Lost item fee is when he needs to drive somewhere to return the item to you or something.

Appeal the issue. Keep complaining till you get what you want.

Best is to dispute with your credit card customer service. Uber didn't do crap until I did that for my issue(technical glitch on their part for a promotional offer that was clearly outlined on their own blog) even after appeal.

Are you wasting several hours for just $15? You could get even more in return by spending the same amount of time driving Uber

Indeed. I don’t understand when people spend more time on trivial amount of money.

Not about money. It’s about getting cheated on. You gonna let a scum steal your money?

Lol over 15 dollars. It’s just money. I got more important shit to do. I’ve been robbed at gunpoint over the iPad 1 when it first came out. 5 min later I ate my pho and an hour later got on a plane for my vacation. Life’s not all about money. Some lady in California is dead because she wouldn’t let go of her purse while two men snatched it from her. Her head ended up being ran over. Some guy in Washington was found dead cuz he got carjacked for his truck and chased after them jumping into the back. They ended up shooting him.

If he can’t afford to lose 15 dollars why is he even taking an Uber which can add up quickly.

If it was me. And I had left my laptop back which usually has 2 MacBooks (air and pro both 2018) and iPad Pro the large one with the pencil in it the 15 dollars would be the least of my worries.

Op need to grow up and keep track of his shit

Getting stolen is like getting slapped in the face, making you look like a loser a fool. You gonna walk away when you get slapped? Smh. New needs a little self respect. It’s $15 this time. It can be $100 next time. Then it’s $1000. Do you have an upper bound? I am happy to take $999.99 from you.

15 bucks is a lot of money. Maybe not for you but a lot of people.

Spending 30 mins for 15$ is waste of time for someone earning $250k+

Spending 30 minutes is net even for someone making 57k a year. If you make more than that an year the time you can spend on this is even less. I can understand if op was saying it’s not amount the money. I’ve spent plenty of hours on something when companies have been assholes. But his main complaint here is he got slighted 15 bucks. Ignoring the fact he probably left his laptop or something in the car. A dishonest driver could have kept it. Think of the 15 as a finders fee. More important things in life than 15 bucks. But more details would help make it clear

“But but but... it’s so unfairrrr that the driver earned a free $15 without having to drive back and deliver the laptop. He earned it from 10 seconds of applying common sense, I’d expect this helpfulness free of charge. So unfair. Unequal. Not pro-equity. No? Jealousy, envy and anger 👊👊” -OP

  • I wouldn’t sweat it over 15 bucks. Your wasted time is called loss of opportunity.

    • Best ideas come when pooping. And if you engage your brain with writing emails to Uber you won’t get an idea and won’t enjoy your poop. 😀
