Uber hiring freeze
Seems like, there is hiring freeze going on in Uber. I was selected for Uber onsite but recruiter told me I need to wait until they receive headcounts. How long do I have to wait for the onsite interview?
There is a major layoff coming that will be announced at the end of the quarter.
Indefinitely unfortunately.
Any idea if this also applies to Freight?

The major lay-off was marketing related roles. Freight is still in hyper growth mode so it wonât face cuts for another year or so I believe
The CTO has heavily implied that layoffs are coming in Eng. But no set details
Letâs contextualize this. Lots of people on Uber blind are convinced that eng layoffs are coming and have been saying that for years. CTO said once that if the org were leaner and we had same resources we could give more to high performers. The Cassandras of Uber have interpreted that as âlayoffs confirmedâ especially in the context of marketing layoffs which did happen. This was in an answer to an all-hands question that I had asked, so you bet I listened to each word very carefully. Then, when asked specifically if there were layoffs planned, the CTO said there werenât. There are still people convinced that eng layoffs are coming, but I personally donât believe that and itâs not based on something out CTO actually said.
But isn't hiring freeze real ?
What is Uberâs severance policy? Is it six months base pay?
I have my onsite scheduled in next 4 days, travel was also booked and I got the on hold mail now. It was also for the Uber search team.
