Uber?

VMware Uber!!!

Is it a bad time to ping recruiter to re-interview at Uber? Considering layoffs and stock dynamics.
Is it too soon if I interviewed in November?

Folks, let me tell you. No one can diminish the long term potential of Uber. It has lot of growth potential.

I failed F and G interviews, have no idea how to get interviewed at N (and I hear they need Java or JVM languages). So, what next?

Not a bad time. Come on in. In fact the stock is at a low so expect that to be beneficial to you.

Only issue is hiring will be less in California offices. They will hire more in other offices in US and out of US.

Do you consider yourself as a risk averse or risk seeking person?

You mean - business side of things? I don't care. As long as I am improving marketable skills while earning good money. Job security is an illusion, in _any_ company.

Job security is a function of your performance and company trajectory. Your benefit in a risk adjusted world is lower at Uber while getting higher upside if things stabilize. Do you pick ... higher expected return with another company or higher upside with Uber Plenty of other places to get similar marketable skills

Also - did I seriously limit my chances the last time I interviewed at Uber by excluding SF location, only willing to commute to Palo Alto? I noticed I interviewed for teams which mostly use Java, while I have zero experience there.

Not at the teams I interviewed with the last time. One of them was doing Cassandra, the other was also mostly Java.

Mostly Golang but for some specific category (like Cassandra, Big Data etc - where the main language is JVM based in the territory) Java is also used.

not a bad time. they just lifted hiring freeze. go for it.

Wait for it when their stock tanks further, they put the hiring freeze, and then layoff a bunch of engineers again
      Sep 12
  • IMO their reorganize/layoff after shock has not settled. I was told there was no more headcount next day after interview, nothing to do with my performance. I trust it's safe and good if I manage to get an offer but seems chaotic at the moment.
