Uber laptop interview

Hi! I have an onsite coming up at Uber ATG and I was told there will be a laptop coding round. I was told I could bring my own or use theirs. Could someone let me know what the laptop round format is? Will I be asked to code something from scratch or will I solving something on hackerrank or some site like that? Is googling ok? any reason why I should take my own laptop? (especially if coding/solving hackerrank problems) thanks!

If you're not Eurasian, then there is no reason why you should take your own laptop. Because they already have decided in their mind like they did with me.

Wasn't it established previously that you might just suck at interviews FastPapuan?

Just so everyone is clear, what exactly do you mean by Eurasian?

Everything is same except instead of writing to a whiteboard, you write code in an editor in laptop where you can erase, insert, edit, duplicate code much easier.

It could be any format. Like they will leave you with your laptop for an hour or so to do a small project. Or could be just opening up codepair and writing code. For backend engineers the latter is more common and for iOS/Android/data etc the former.

Atleast they were generous enough to tell you to bring a laptop, when I did it, I showed up and they asked why I didn’t have it

I recently interviewed with uber , yes you have to bring your own laptop, they will ask you to code on collab coding platform and evaluate it based on it, googling is not allowed and yes you have to write it from the scratch.

Googling for syntax is usually allowed

Of course if you Google something basic that will be a red flag

Make sure your laptop is set up so that you can write code and tests quickly in your language of choice.

What is expected coding/laptop round for “Software Engineer - Data Visualization” role ? Recruiter said there will be 3 technical rounds as mentioned below. 1. Architectural/data structural design - distributed systems will be mentioned. There will be whiteboarding 2. Coding & debugging session. Programming environment (need laptop) 3. Solving problems, emphasis on design. How to create a program from scratch emphasizing design. What is expected in each of these rounds ? Please share your input
