7.5 yoe (4 in current field of expertise) Senior software eng in SF 175 base 16k rsu grant over 4 years (that's 16k units, so it's worth 780k or 530k depending on who you ask) Perf bonus 10k cash + $45k worth of rsu, can be a multiple of this if high performing (thats pretty much how it was worded) 15k relocation from overseas Currently working for a local (non-US) enterprise which is a well known brand but not a tech company.
Are you sure those RSU numbers are correct?
Typical for Uber, low-ball offer. Feel free to counter, it's expected there. I wasn't able to come to a middle ground with them, but they definitely are willing to move
Sorry about the confusion. Yes it's 16k units. I used units because we don't really know what they'll be worth after IPO. It doesn't make a difference what they're "worth" when the offer was made, right?
Of course it does. Uber is offering you a number of RSUs which they believe at a specific point in time eqautes to a certain dollar figure. Without knowing the underlying value of the specific RSU, the number of meaningless. Also, 409a figures are a internal value, most people won't know this value as it's not public.
Yes you have a point - if they're worth more at the time of offer they will probably try to offer fewer units. I wasn't clear in my question, what I meant was if it's the same number of units, what each unit is worth at the time of offer won't make any difference to the final value, because it's up to the market price in the end, right? I mean, 1 rsu is still 1 share and most employees get common share?
Also, I currently have an offer from Uber with almost identical figures, except higher target cash bonus. I'm pretty sure this is the standard offer for a senior software engineer.
Did you have competing offers?
My initial offer for SSE-1(a) was 180k, 680k(based on $33 evaluation) and re-negotiated the rsus to 760k again(23k shares)on $33 eval. Target bonus - 15k + $45k rsus. I had 1 competing offer from Other Fangs.
Having a look at some of the Uber offers. My target bonus is so much more, but I didn't negotiate. Do some teams have higher target bonuses?
No clues, my HR was very clear that base and target is non negotiable , rsus they have some wiggle room. Hence this offer. What is your breakdown ?
Relocating from? Also did you accept the offer?

Very low end in terms of RSUs relative to work experience.
I think he's taking about the absolute number of RSUs and not their dollar amount. That absolute number (16k) seems pretty good.
Depends on what uber is trading. However if north of $100k a year, that’s pretty solid.
