Uber offer (non-technical) vs Other company

Dec 31, 2018 19 Comments

I have 10 years of experience in marketing, got an offer from Uber but base is too low. I have two offers one from Hiscox, base salary is 145K+17.5% bonus, while Uber offered me base as 120K in NY+ 3107 RU's with 4 yr vesting. Help in suggestion of picking offer.
Please advise...

If you can survive off the low base from Uber, def choose that. Hiscox is an old school conservative company where you will go to die.

Uber’s value will always be a crap shoot until it IPOs and gets tested, but you will still have a lot more upside and the big brand on your resume.

Don't listen to that top of the range noise. Present them with your competing offer and see what they say. Every recruiter says you're at the top of the range. They told me the same thing but somehow they found an extra 12k/yr when I pushed them.

So, as I asked her before and she said no more bandwidth. I have to finalize until Friday. I can ask her but then i am afraid i will loose or will gain something. I dont want to loose it but i also want it should be atleast 135 base.... Dont know how to ask her.

Just say, is this the best offer fb can make to me? I need to take some time to decide and I want to make sure I consider the offers I have all at once with the final amounts and consider each of the roles. Say Ive always wanted to work at fb but I also need to keep my income in mind as to not work for less than I make now, or something. Just make it sound like you aren’t all about money and that you’re excited about the company.

Failed Google but passed Amazon. Both were heavily weighted on personality questions. Do some research on recent questions they are asking and have 10 - 15 stories prepared that you can show how your personality traits were able to bring about success in your past roles.

Pretty much. Had some brief parts to asses your knowledge of the role and problem solving methodologies but other than that all behavioral.

Both were about 5 hrs. Google was my first interview in about 5 years and I failed probably due to that but Amazon was my second and apparently I did well. The other thing is that Amazon has leadership principals they worship. If you can tie stories to those pricipals you should do well.

They've been doing this for a little while now. Cost cutting on salary so it looks good on financials while hoping people will accept based on the RSU's having liquidity in the near future. Did they go over strike price v estimated IPO value with you?
