Winter Internship offer, it’s my last internship so I would need a return offer. I would have chose Uber for WLB, benefits and lower ops load but I don’t know if there will still be a hiring freeze around the time I graduate (early 2020).
If you enjoy coding choose Uber, if you enjoy reviewing dashboards and preparing on-call reports and babysitting deployments then join AWS.
Look for thread "uber engineering layoff" posted yesterday
Yeah I follow it. That’s the topic that made me rethink about my decision of joining Uber.
Amazon is known for its cloud. Uber is not know for it’s cloud. Do you want to work on the cloud infrastructure?
AWS has reduced cloud infrastructure to a bunch of Cloud Formation Templates, the only thing you need is a bunch of Jinja templates to generate those CFN templates. If you're lucky you get to work on python or Java code to generate those Jinja templates. So eventually you'll need yaml files to get the configs necessary to build all the templates!
AWS is the best place to start your career. You will learn so many things. Why would you lose an opportunity like that?
Go for AWS. Uber right now is not in a good state, with the layoff rumors and hiring freeze You can come to Uber after working for 1-2 years at Amazon
Money or experience? For money, go AWS. Amazon stock is 💰. For experience while you're fresh and open to new ideas and a little chaos, go Uber, but expect to find less guidance and consistency day to day.

Don’t join companies that are loosing money.
Amazon was loosing money for a long time.
It’s not now. I am saying this because loosing money leads to lay-off once in awhile.
