Strange situation, got an offer from Uber and discussed with the recruiter with some counter. Got back the revised offer yesterday so told the recruiter today that I will review it and get back to her no later than Monday. She sent back this threatening response that they have a back up candidate also and she wants the acceptance by end of the week and what is my hesitation in saying yes. Is taking 3 days to respond not an acceptable time frame? This recruiter also went back on her words regarding the base range she told Me at the beginning of the interview process and later on went down 10% saying that “oh I did not know and that it is what it is now” Should I involve the hiring manager? I mean, these are hardly the things you should have to deal with when starting a new position? If i had another offer, I would have told her to go eff herself, not really, but would have loved to. Open to any or all suggestions. Is this what Uber is about?? Lot of unpleasant unknowns??? Addition— Not looking for more money at all and currently do not have a job. Because the recruiter pulled a fast one on me with misrepresentation of base salary so want to be able to make sure there are no contradictions to what recruiter has communicated verbally
Doesn't sound strange at all. What do you need 3 days for? You've had weeks to decide if you want to join no?

“Not really, but would have loved to.”
3 days is a long time... If I were the hiring manager and knew you were taking the time to go get counters, I'd pull it. You don't care, you just are using it for $. They want a candidate who is excited about the opportunity, not taking the weekend to think about it. Better hope Uber still wants you, because if you go back to your current company and accept their counter, they know where your allegiances lie.

As a hiring manager you shouldn't be afraid of competition. You should also be well aware of how process works these days. Most of the candidates interview at several places and pick the best one. Skipping on someone simply because they wait for other offers would be very inefficient.
Accept offer, get another offer, and renege. That’ll show her.
They're just bullying you to accept the offer and close the deal. If you made through their interview, you can easily make get a bunch of other offers. You have every right to tell them to fuck off, especially since their reputation is kinda on the low these days anyway.
If you dont need the job, why bother. Millions of people would love to work for Uber.
When did op say that?
Recruiter's response seems fine to me. Not aggressive at all. Just sounds like they want to make a quick hiring decision. What's strange about that?
If you have a deadline for candidate to accept an offer, you make the candidate aware of it by saying it, not threaten them with another candidate when they want to take a couple of days to review your offer
Not the most professional, agreed, but considering it a threat is a bit of a reach, no? For all we know the recruiter may have been trying to be helpful by dropping some relevant information?
Please share your offer and yoe.

Hiring manager has no say in offer amount, the comp committee decides that. If you negotiated more stock, the committee can decrease base to compensate(though base decrease is less than stock increase)

Uber recruiters do that. It's normal negotiation for Uber. Tell them you are going for other interviews; recruiter will come back and sell you harder
