Hello all,

I recently got job offers from Uber as sde and senior software engineer at Salesforce, the job location for Uber is Pal Alto and the team is really good, same with Salesforce and job location is Seattle. Base salary of Salesforce is more compared to Uber ( 40k difference ). Should I even consider Uber, I know it is ranked above Salesforce but given that I have been offered senior at Salesforce. Just curious. Any Thoughts?

Uber : Bass: 135000, 3752 RSU( 25% will vest on year end and then monthly), 35000( joining bonus) , 1100( target cash bonus it can double based on performance) , 26250 ( target equity refresh it can double based on performance), relocation
Salesforce: bass: 175000, 135000 RSU ( 33% will vest on first year end) , 25000 joining bonus . 10-12% year end bonus .

Isn't Salesforce's Senior the same as SDE II elsewhere? I think Lead is their equivalent of Senior elsewhere

You’re going to get bored at Salesforce. If you want to grow faster and learn more, go to Uber. Once they IPO, the stock is going to be worth way more than that 40k. Go to Uber

Uber! Don’t go after 40k imagine when Uber goes ipo and also you will learn much more at Uber. Salesforce SMTS is SDE 2 just FYI

Salesforce SMTS bonus is 15%. This is a generous offer for a senior, specially for Seattle. If you care more about the money, go to Salesforce. If you care more about technical challenges, go to Uber.

Good wlb, good benefits, volunteering and giving back opportunities, and overall good, healthy culture.
Complexity of problems and growth opportunities will depend on product and team you end up with and your own ability to recognize opportunity in front of you and act on it.
Remember, Salesforce has tons of different products so there is an option to transfer internally if you not happy with current situation.

I am not sure if they will go out business but I do wonder about Uber’s future. Probably I just don’t know enough, but to me Uber is one trick pony. They captured the market by offering below market rates to consumers and subsidizing payments to drivers. once the go public and open up books, I think there will a lot of disappointment. From what I read, Uber loosing money and drivers at lightning rate. And with cities like New York setting minimum pay, Uber will not be as competitive as they once were.
In addition, what’s their growth opportunities, what else Uber plans to do?

Uber isn’t a one trick pony. UberEats and Freight are both doing very well.

Salesforce is also doing very well and will keep growing.

SF has a better culture but Uber will pay more.

The 40k comp difference is bigger than it appears.

    * Washington has no income tax, California’s is nearly 10%.
    * Palo Alto is going to be super expensive compared to Seattle. When I moved from Seattle 6 years ago I needed to make 180% of what I was making in Seattle to justify the move.

There is no guaranteed refresher for RSUs at Salesforce which is a bummer, and the Uber ipo could be amazing. But I’d take a look at quality of life and use that as a measuring stick.

What group in Salesforce if you don’t mind me asking?

Uber is an easy choice here. Salesforce is great too. But the IPO gives you optionality. It may suck or do really well. But you have that upside to stay. Salesforce will always be there. Sounds like Salesforce gave you one level up. 40k is no joke.
