Graduated CS in 2015 and making 90k (and some shares) at a Nyc startup with about 20 employees. They had a successful series A raise and been working almost a year and expecting a pay bump. The role is full stack, what can I expect?
I have 25 years of engineering experience. Last year I was still in NYC and contacted by a few startups. Whether the role was as a senior dev or even a head of dev, the salary quote was never more than $140K. So for your experience, I don’t think you’ll get past $120K any time soon with an NYC startup. In my case, I’m likely giving these companies a gift by joining, which is why I left for Seattle. Even the finance tech jobs were lacking in availability and pay.
I got $130.000 as technical lead in NYC. Less than 10 people at the office and < 40 people globally. I have about 13 years experience.
There are a ton of bigger companies that are hiring in NYC. Jet, Squarespace, Compass, off the top of my head. Depending on your level I’m sure you can make more than 90k
For reference 145k base and 130k base were two offers I got in the past for two medium size start ups in NYC. That was with 2y exp.
Care to share which startups? Currently in NYC with 2 yrs exp
My friend was part of a mass layoff in his first job after his masters. His manager left as well and joined another startup. Since my friend got along well with the manager, he was offered 130k base.
You’re at a bad startup. Your equity is probably tiny too. 90k is low most startups worth their merit will pay 120k+. But experience trumps money.
