My niece got admit in general science for Bachelor's program in university of Washington. However, she is interested in comp science. How likely is to convert to comp science from general science in 2nd year? Any advice or pointers?
Congrats, she will need to apply. UW CS is super competitive but not impossible.
Direct admission policy has changed and since this year majority of students admitted directly to the CS, it used to be less than 10% previously IIRC. This definitely leaves fewer free spots for later admissions.
UW is a wannabe UW(aterloo)
Wrong. It's a wannabe Cal.
Very unlikely. Direct admission policy changed this year and most kids admitted directly, very few spots left for later admissions. Same for informatics major IIRC. ACMS major might be an option but it is also very competitive and very math heavy. A lot of kids end up doing some other major (math or physics) or transferring out to less popular school (Oregon State, WSU, and WWU are popular choices)
Go out of state. No chance if you did not get first time.
Btw, she can try to appeal admissions but there isn't much time left. Procedure is described on the UW's website.
Odds go way up if she TAs for the intro classes
End of the LC will decide if he’s gonna end up in FANG. So anywhere CS should be better...
This is not true at all
