Up level when moving from FANG?
Currently M2 at Facebook. Starting interviews with Dropbox, Uber, Lyft, Pinterest etc. Is it possible to go from M2 at Facebook to Eng director at these startups?
I don’t think those companies can be considered startups any longer

Let me give you an example My Director has over 40years of industry experience. How does your 7 compare?

Except that in this case those 40 years has given him experience in ways which my 20 years in the industry does even compare to. The point I’m making is really 7-9 years of experience at a place like Facebook is valuable but it is also shallow. And when I’m looking at a person who is a high level manager I expect them to have stories that helps explain why they are going the direction they are going and how it’s worked in the past. I also expect to hear about huge failures which have helped mold what is important and their style. If you have only worked with the best ICs and not been at a company when it was floundering, how are you going to handle it when it happens to you?
How long were you M2? If more than a year, go for it

If I may ask - What are your reasons for looking out?
Been here for over 7 years .. need a change. Plus the annual refreshers haven’t been big enough to cover up for the growing gap. It’s financially a loss for me to stay at Facebook
