Is it okay to use your friends/spouse/relatives address on your resume based on the job location? Example: Using your friends address who lives in NY for job in NYC even though you live in Florida
You don't need an address on your resume
What about during the application process when you are filling applications online. They generally ask for an address
@ Drunk@Work just a general genuine question, application/resume what would you do?
Why? If you lie, don't expect a covered relocation. Then just be upfront about it (I can relocate myself in x weeks). If I ever catch someone lie on their resume for this, I'll auto decline to make an offer or revoke one. Even if I was prepared to extend relocation. You have nothing to win.
What if they pay for relo? Not sure if it's worth the lie. Most top tier places I've encountered won't disqualify a candidate for location reasons. You don't want to get caught in an awkward situation further down the road if you find out they pay for relo but you lied and said you were local...
One of my best hires had a fake address in SF instead of where he actually was which was SoCal. It was smart move on his part because it got him to the first round. I realized before hiring what he'd done but I gave him kudos for hustle.
Why would that be unethical? don't expect to be reimbursed for the interview travel or relocation
the better question is why even put an address on your resume!? There's no need for it.
I only started getting callbacks when I changed my address. It's smart. Just have to be prepared to show up fast if they call you for an onsite.
I use to put "relocating to Bay Area." Never an issue some just asked if I was already here or not.
Yes it's okay, but could make getting relocation paid a weird conversation. But only address I ever put on resume is email.
If you think it will be an issue, just remove it. Finding a lie in a resume is the easiest way to disqualify a candidate.
