I’d like to hear from someone who joined #vmware through a recent acquisition (#carbonblack #heptio #bitnami) about their offer letter? Was there a salary or equity change? Did you feel like your level/title was fair? Were you surprised by anything?
I believe Pivotal job levels are inflated compared to Vmware. I think inflation happened more in the last 12’months ( post ipo, didn’t do so well, so promote people for retention ?). Before that, it was not so inflated .
Hmm. I was involved in several leveling/calibration conversations in our most recent cycle. I don't feel like we did anything differently ... And I think if a manager said, "let's promote this person because their stock isn't worth as much as they hoped," it wouldn't have gone over well. We use skills matrixes, feedback from peers, impact on product teams etc and (at least from what I've seen) try to be consistent.
On the Carbon Black side, there was no contract changes and they converted non-vested stock at the acquisition rate. No level/ title/ comp changes that I’m aware of, but no opportunity for raises/ promotions until the next VMware review period in August 2020
Heptio here. I’ve heard mixed things from folks who came over. It seems like in general many Heptio pay bands were comparable so no major changes. I’ve heard a few folks who had adjustments in base upwards but a lot of the same. One difference: VMware has a bonus system while Heptio did not. So that’s more $ across the board. There was a small group of folks in the same level at Heptio which got split (e.g Staff Eng at Heptio to either Staff 2 or Senior Staff at VMware). That raised some eyebrows. I received a decent chunk of VMware RSUs (over 4yrs, 1yr cliff) as an additional incentive on top of existing Heptio options. Less than I would get on the open market, but Heptio stock was $$ so I’m not going anywhere for a bit while that pays out.
Thank you!
Would you mind sharing the $ amount of the additional RSUs?
