No one would hire you for a senior manager role, unless you have YOE managing full-time employees as direct reports.

Just do a LinkedIn search using keywords director manager at FANG. Not everyone came from acquired companies. It is not easy but definitely possible. If you cannot advise leave it . Enjoy your millions at Lyft

-How does one become vp or director with only 7 YOE ??
I could tell you but it wouldn't help. You need some insight into yourself. You want status. Earn it.

I don’t know why I’m getting such cocky responses. 99 % of folks don’t become vp or director with 7 YOE. Unless you join your friends startup . I am looking for guidance on the right moves and approaches to take to get their in next 10 years. Willing to toil hard for it

ICT4 will roughly equate to L5 at Google and E5 at FB (though I have seen ICT4 being offered L4 at Google). Sr Manager is unlikely from ICT4 at Apple.

How many YOE do u need to join goog at L6??

Yoe doesn't matter. L6 is extremely hard to get outside and would need very desirable skills for them to offer it to you.

It's not about years of experience. The bar for L6 or L7 at Google and FB is very high.

    Bigger how?
Where's this need to be validated by "big companies" coming from?

stupid society in general. No kidding but I’ve seen several director vp at FANG and most of them have worked previously at one of these

That's incestuous and closed-mindedness. Never limit yourself trying to get brand names on your profile. Your work should shine and reflect your personal brand. Society hasn't caught up with complexity of roles and non-hierarchical organizations.

Umm, no, not likely. You need to first get to a manager role at Apple and be a successful manager for several years, and get multiple teams/at least 15-20 reports. Or have delivered some insanely amazing results as a manager.

AMZN tech directors have ~+20 YOE and have 50-400 EMPLs.

Lol - you aren’t going to be a manager any time soon at Apple .

Well what about other mid tier companies after taking M1 exp at Apple
      Mar 24
    • Lyft TEHm35
You also assume getting M1 is going to be easy at Apple.

If your goal is to become manager at the earliest, then Apple (or Google) is not the desirable place for you. However you can excel as a IC in both the places and also get paid very well (and become manager down the line). For example at Apple, ICT4 is at the same level as M1 and ICT5 is M2. So a Sr Manager is at the same level as a IC at the level of ICT5.

Thanks . my long term career goal is not to be a IC forever. Want to get as close as possible to VP . I do have people management experience in the past but may not at Apple. If I come out of it and join mid size companies as a Sr manager or director would they consider ? Also how easy is it to get M1 at Apple as I’m already ICT4?

Geez I have 8 YOE already.. and feel like a loser for not having managed teams.. at this rate I may have to become a manager at 45?? Then when does one become director VP??

Probably never. Life doesn't work like that. You don't wait around and get promoted.
