Lol wow. Bad at school? You might be good at work, but you won’t be working for us!
Yep, google had me send an official transcript (not a copy). They don't want to risk employment on a a possible low performers. Work hard in school kids; you can party after.
Weird why would google care about gpa
Only for new grads. They want to see history of sucess.
I remember in school noticing that some of the people with the worst engineering intuition and problem solving ability had very high GPAs, and some of the best engineers I know had very low GPAs. School is about memorizing, while work is often about conceptual understanding and problem solving. I have a theory that people with poor conceptual ability develop strong memorization as a crutch, and therefore they do very well in school and very poorly in the workplace.
I don't think you can be good at CS just with memorization.
You’re right, Yelp. Not just memorization. Cheating is rampant in some CS schools
Thought they stopped that, or maybe they stopped for people that graduated with at least 2 years of exp. Remembered getting asked GPA and extra curricular activities even for a contract role. If I was asked to justify I wouldve told them I optimize to pass with least amount of effort.
Is this for FTE or an internship?
Boom times fill up top companies with people who shouldn't be there. They go on to take up decision making roles and corrupt the culture over time by bringing in more of their own mould or ones they can manage. Sometimes it's your destiny to get trapped in such places, at other times you get an escape without you realizing it.
Life lesson. Until your first day, keep all options open. Anything can happen and there is little wrong with declining others at the last minute. It's business not personal
It's often personal bias, not business, because humans are involved. Making a pyramid for decision-making doesn't eliminate people's biases; it just reduces them. The process is probably as good as hiring based on personal recommendations alone.
Sorry that's not what I meant. What I mean is do not feel bad about things like canceling an offer at the last minute, quitting, changing orgs, etc. It's business. The company doesn't feel anything when it lays off people, or gives you less money than your idiot coworkers. In business, you do you.
A verbal offer isn't worth the paper it's not printed on. If you have not signed an offer letter, no one has promised you anything. Even then, there are no guarantees.

Yeah, I don't think it's Google. I had also heard that Google doesn't use GPA.
It’s Google
