My wife took a break after we had our baby. She started interviewing for SET roles and got an offer extended from Visa two weeks ago. She stopped interviewing at other places and told Visa that she will accept the offer. In the mean, HR person kept sending her an offer letter with salary lower than what they agreed on phone for past few days. My wife sent an email pointing out that the salary is lower than what they agreed on. The HR person said she would correct it from past two days. However, today they called her saying they would revoke the offer as they find another person who might be a better fit. Is there anything we can do? My wife is a very hardworking and kind person. She went through a lot recently (lost her close family members etc) and it is really painful to see her go through this. Any help would be appreciated
Sorry to hear but unfortunately, this is an at-will employment. You can’t do anything except may be posting a bad review on Glassdoor but the rating is already too low to have an impact for Visa as a company.
Dodged a bullet there. Something else will turn up. Don't lose hope.
Visa is shit. They look for 24×7 support.
How dare they!
Support your wife by advising she did dodge a bullet. Have her go back to interviewing, she'll find the right fit and don't stop interviewing until that signed offer letter goes through this time. If any of the other companies come back interested be honest with what happened.
Thanks! Yeah I am trying to cheer her up. I hope something good would come along her way
It sucks. But I agree with others. She dodged a bullet. Visa is the kind of company that does that and doesn't even think this is wrong. Seriously, she'll be better off elsewhere
What a horrible company.
Nothing can be done. Anyway it's not worth joining. I haven't heard of us having an SET role, I've only seen QA who do automation testing. May I know which team this was?
It was for Visa developer platform
Then she should count herself lucky that she didn't get in. The original dev team have been shifted to something else, a few have moved out to other companies. VDP has no SETs. They've a lot of manual/automation testers.
You can request same HR to consider your wife for other roles in other teams.
There is nothing you can do. Just let it go and maybe try to get back on the other interviews that she stopped by calling them back.
Unfortunately they weren’t committed until the contract was signed and hence you’d expect them to behave in good faith. I’d say leave a bad review on Glassdoor and count your blessings your wife didn’t end up at a company that can’t abide by a gentleman’s agreement until a paper is signed

Can't do much, this is exactly why you never stop interviewing until you sign an offer letter...
She was given an offer letter which she wanted to sign but the numbers were wrong. I do see your point though
Still makes his point, until the offer letter is signed and is a done deal, don't stop. You're pretty much powerless now.
