Visa transfer while Switching companies
I recently got an offer and an planning to switch. I am wondering how do I synch up my joining date and vacation during the h1b visa transfer. How long does it take for visa transfer ? How do you decide on joining date and no of days to serve in notice period ? When do I notify my manager about this ? I'm thinking if renewing my passport in the mean while. Will that effect h1b transfer in anyway ?

Only catch is if you end up using all your allotted vacation your current company might ask you to pay the money back. Happened to a lot of people I know

If it's actual paid time off you have accrued, it's money they owe you, so they can't ask you to pay it back. That is why they have to pay out the unused vacation to you when you leave.
Go on vacation. Come crack, Start the visa transfer. When you have the new 797 in hand tell manager and resign. Serve the notice period join the new company.
Though you can't do international travel when doing the transfer (or probably better stated that you shouldn't enter or exit the country while it's processing)
