Visiting bay area - do I need to rent a car?

I am visiting bay area from Oct 22-Oct 26 for a conference in Sunnyvale on Oct 23 and 24. The hotel prices are already too high for these day and I am paying around $500-$550 just for hotel for these days.

For first 2 days I will be staying near Apple/Google campus in Sunnyvale and I wanted to roam around and look through those campuses of big tech companies since I will be around in the area.

Are the campuses nearby in walking distance or would I need a rental car too? I am trying to cut down the cost since for the entire trip I will end up with atleast $1000 of cost considering flight tickets, accommodation, food and parking here at the airport + uber/rental car.

Apparently you don't seem to need any information, and have answers to all your questions already.
I can tell you that we call such people Askholes.

There are many car rental locations, hard to believe it’s $300 for 2 days

^ Probably the rent is only $100, and then they charge you window fee, door fee, tire fee, steering wheel fee and someone saying hello to you fee that add up to another $200

You can use public transport, but it will take you 1 hour to go from point A to B, when if you drive it will only be 10 mins.
You can use lyft or uber, but if you are going to visit many places it will cost you the same as renting.

Don't rent it, use public transport or ride hailing. You'll have a lot of troubles with traffic.

How can we tell without knowing what you plan to do and what's your budget. All the information is online, just Google it.
