Hello all, my mother is visiting from India. She is not feeling well since last couple of days. She has Dry cough and occassional fever. She has an insurance. I have never been to doctor or pharmacist here so I am not sure how to handle this. Please suggest what to do.
Visitors insurance is useless. Take her to a general doctor and tell them that you don't have insurance. Consultation fee should not be more than $150 or so. Ask doctor to prescribe generic medicine.
Which city? Look for desi suburbs and search for doctors in desi shopping areas. Call and explain that u r willing to pay cash. Take her to a doctor, if needed. Even sometimes Mexican doctors who accepts cash payments will do
Call the insurance number and ask them the nearest in-network clinic. Call the clinic and get appointment. There will also be video call option. Check with the insurance provider.
Check with the insurance to see if there are any in-group doctors nearby and find the one who accepts new patients and can see her very soon. Best of luck!
What a f***ked up medical system in US. In india within $10 you can consult from a very well qualified doctor. MAGA!!! OP, hope you find solution to the situation.
MAGA is your answer to OP's question?
You are a dumb person. gtfo.
US healthcare system is beyond fucked.
Have you tried over the counter medicine for her? Advil or tylenol are good for fever and also some over the counter cough medicine like Vicks might help me heal. But if she really needs to see a doctor, If in Bayarea.. u can call ICC ie Indian community center in milpitas... they usually have volunteer docs. But in the past..I have taken my parents to a doctor in Fremont..he doesnt accept insurance and charges fees which is around $100 or so. So just go and pay cash. Pls reach out for any more information. Hope ur mom feels better soon.
Which doctor ?
Not sure where you live but find an urgent care... Do NOT go to an emergency care. Urgent cares are like regular hospitals but without having to book an appointment (slightly higher charges but not as high as emergency care). Most will have a McDonalds style price chart in their lobby. A typical doctor's visit like this will cost $250 (higher range) incl. a likely strep test, they'll also ask you for approval before performing any high cost tests. All urgent care bills are settled on the spot. Some accept insurance but they're totally fine if you just pay the entire amount with your credit card. They won't send send any bill to your home later with inflated costs. Again DO NOT go to emergency care. Call and confirm they are urgent care and not emergency care before going. Emergency care for cold will cost you $1000 - $5,000 or likely even more. Can't emphasize enough, check they are not emergency care before going or at least before checking in.
Try CVS minute clinic. Easy to get appointment. You can walk in too. For minor illness it is $99 to $139. https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/services/price-lists
