Which approach do you prefer? [LiDAR + Camera + Radar] by Waymo, Apple SPG Cruise Automation, Uber ATG, Lyft, Argo AI, Aurora, Zoox, Nuro, Pony[.]ai , WeRide[.]ai, Baidu and every other AV Start-Up. vs. [Camera + Radar] by Tesla and Pronto[.]ai
For immediate implementation, lidar is needed. I mean how many people died because Tesla didn’t recognize stuff on the road?
Tesla recognizes it, but they don’t care and are happy to beta test in production with lives on the line.
Lidar is unaffordable and not going to fly, the cost of acquired big data cannot be borne by the customers. Once precise positioning is solved without $50k equipment, self drive should be achievable
Have you seen this btw? https://youtu.be/ybOG5QsT53s
That background poem tho :o
Probably pre programmed/mapped route.
Why buy a car with lidar If SDC makes it easy to access a ride in 1-4min... with a fraction of the price of current TAAS companies, car sales would decline if this comes to fruition. Albeit, SDC companies will manage the fleet of vehicles on the roads. Tesla’s business model assumes there will still be rising demand for people shelling out 35-100k on cars in 10+ years with SDC equipped. Who gives a shit how ugly a car is if it can get you from point A-B, and you don’t need to shell out significant dollars?
If Tesla is able to achieve their goal of fsd taxi service, and they are willing to sell the cars to help them afford it, I could totally see people buying Tesla's as an investment, expecting to get a return on it. Elon was estimating it could make people 30k a year. I'm thinking about buying one later this year if it starts looking like they are close to being able to achieve that goal.
Lidar not practical for consumer.
Humans drive just fine with two optical cameras. If you can’t get FSD with radar, sonar, and cameras, you’re doing it wrong and lidar is just going to drive up your costs.
Humans don't drive fine. That is the pitching point of self driving that it does not focus to remove redundant driving, but makes driving much safer.
To achieve higher and more accurate sense of awareness, you need radar + camera. The lidar is required to help in those 0.01% of the cases.
How about the one that has something currently working on the road.
Both are shit otherwise we would have something by now
It’s solving the 0.001% in the Bell curve that is intractable, not because of the hardware.
May be they are missing Watson? 😂
