I keep hearing all the wlb horror stories at amazon. Is this role specific? Or its equally bad in all functions like PRoduct management, program management and engineering?

- Amazon B0z0sMany mature orgs within AWS actually have good WLB. It's the relatively new and upcoming ones that need to get out there and gain market that are particularly bad. Think AI, Lambda, other application services.
- Amazon / Eng firefly123Org/group/role specific.
Also there are different flavors of bad WLB. There’s “I might get called at 3AM” bad, and “I have to deliver the moon in only 3 weeks” bad
- Amazon lumpieFor any large company the answer will of course be "it depends", but I would say on average the WLB for engineers at Amazon is much worse than other places.
My own experience: at least 50 hours a week to keep your head above water. Lots of crunch time and random org wide diktats which have to be addressed immediately.
In my time here we have never had a sprint that didn't have a massive amount of items roll over due to all the randomisation and unforeseen difficulties
