Wait for FB london Vs. Masters at Georgia Tech

I got interviewed at Facebook London in march this year and received a congratulatory mail within a week for E4 level. However, they haven't rolled out an offer yet due to headcount issue. HR he has told me that headcount freeze is for indefinite period, might take few more months. I am also pursuing online masters from Georgia Tech university for an year now and recently received admit to study on campus starting this August. I have already completed 4/10 courses and all my credits will be transferred. So just need to do 6 courses at campus. Which option should I choose? OPTION 1: Decline campus offer from Gatech. Complete masters online. Wait for FB london offer. OPTION 2: Study at campus. I plan to complete masters by May 2020 with specialization in ML. I will get OPT to work in US, and FB will likely offer me a position in US at E5 level (HR mentioned this). I will get experience to study at top notch university. Also, I will have opportunity to give interview with other companies for competitive offers . I have 7 yoe and based out of India.

I think you already know the answer in your heart. Just come to the US and finish your MS. Meanwhile, try to ask the recruiter in London to get you an internship at FB US. If you think the MS is not that worthwhile mid way and the London guy comes back with an offer, you can always move to London in an FTE position. Later transfer over to US internally on an L1.

Thanks Guiliani, it makes sense. My only concern about going to campus is if it is too late to go back to the college, already 7 yoe. Also, most of the students there want to land a job with FAANG or a similar company. I already have one with FB. So, just thinking if it is worth the effort. Campus Experience in US college and Georgia Tech Brand are two of my reasons to go with it.

Mind if I ask you how hard was to get into the masters? Cost?

Are you married ? Does everyone who does online masters get the offer to study on campus?

1. Yes 2. No, you need to apply for transfer.

How did you convert from OMSCS to the on site MSCS? I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing in hopes of taking some of the classes that aren’t offered online. IMO it’s silly to not accept the on campus offer. FB should still be around by the time you graduate.

Dpes one get 3 years OPT if he transfers to oncampus ?

For OPT you need to complete atleast one academic year in a full time course. It means 12 hrs credits of course each semester for at least two semesters.

@OP what did you do end up doing? Do you work in ML now?
