Wait for Google or take Uber?
Hi, current TC is 265 with 4 YOE from a mid-tier non tech company doing distributed systems and engineering. I have an offer from: Uber with around 280 TC at L4 Amazon with 270 TC at L5 (SDE 2) which is equivalent to Uber L4 Uber is willing to negotiate more but asked me for a number. I have passed Google HC for L4 but have yet to get a team match. I passed HC about 4 weeks ago. My recruiter said I could expect at least 3 more months. I like the work at Amazon > Uber, but the Culture/Prestige/TC of Uber > Amazon. I think I've narrowed it down that Uber > Amazon especially if they increase their offer a bit. I don't love my current work (not a lot of growth) and if Google offered me a job but in 12 months, I would take Uber and re-apply. If it was 2 months, I would wait for Google Team Matching. Can't move to LCOL for Google team matching for personal reasons, so HCOL it is.
Have you had any calls lined up yet? What level for Google?
edited to add L4. I have had 1 call lined up, recruiter said it wasn't a match. They did ask if I knew any Hiring Managers in my networking looking to hire an L4.....
Didn't know L4 team matching was also an issue. I just got done with L3 team matching and that was a pain

Google and Amazon are more stable than Uber who is not making enough money yet!

Umm.. which company do you want to work for the most? What are you looking for in a team/position?
Google > Uber > Amazon > Current role. Now, this obviously depends a bit on the role, and that is what makes this difficult for me. I’m not sure when TM will finish and if I’ll even get good options that are better work than Uber/Amazon
If you really want Google then wait. Uber and Amazon offers will stand and if not they'll find another team for you. Don't give into their pressure tactics. SWEs are in extremely high demand

Agreed. However if the expected value is assumed to be the current share price because of something-something fair pricing then I should take the offers as they stand and understand the risk profile I’m taking and adjust my other investments
If you’re a top performer at Uber you still make business impact as an L4 IC - can you say the same for your other options? If so then it is about the TC; If not then sign those papers and welcome to the team!
Wow 3 months??! I matched in about 2 weeks.
The recruiter said it could take 2 weeks, but it can also take months, they can't guarantee me anything.
