So I had 1:1 today and my boss asked me if I was interested in moving to another team which needed help. The other team is losing people, and the other team's manager when asked for help, mine and my teammate's name came up. Pros of moving: Get to lead some team members. Helping out the team when needed. Cons: Attrition rate of that team is high and I'm worried that if something is going on in the team because of which people are leaving and wouldn't want my career wrecked because of bad boss. Should I take the offer? Any help/thoughts is appreciated.
Do you an option to say no?
Yes
You aren't likely to save it if the bad boss stays, unless it's sheer incompetence. Need info on whether salary increase was offered. Would ask questions about expectations on what you would do and what the expectation is by moving you over there. Stop the bleed? Add tech expertise? Few people can save something like that alone and I suspect if you were one of those people, you wouldn't be asking questions about whether you should go or not. Make sure expectations won't lead to burnout or a ding on your record, set them beforehand so you know goals
No salary increase. Basically to provide leadership to the team, guide new hires and show right path to them. As far as tech expertise, there's a senior engineer who's definitely worth working with, but just wanted to make sure not to take any rash decision.
The people who recently left voluntarily are the most likely to tell you what you need to know. Iโve resigned to go to another company a number of times myself, but nearly always with a reason...

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Find out more about the team, the work involved and why people are leaving
Well, I tried to find about it. One guy was fired because of performance issues, and couple of them resigned because they wanted to work in other company. Doesn't look like any issues with manager, but there's no way to know why those two guys left. Was it just because of a better offer or cuz of issue with manager.
How long were they on the team before leaving? Is the manager new? Your current manager sounds like a good one so could talk to him about this as well. To me, it sounds like there isn't much to worry about and you should take the opportunity.
