Stuck at a shitty company in DC.. just moved here and still getting a feel for the tech scene.

Anyone know where the best places to work are?

Well... If you're looking to get into project management and have no experience, I'd say try to find a place willing to get your foot in the door as a PjM and then go from there. Otherwise, consider a vendor like Microsoft. Occasionally you'll find good contracting companies, but most are Cleared work in DC. DMI was a good company to work for a number of years ago when I was there.

Great. I am a new grad, I will be joining Microsoft as a Associate Consultant. They have given me a domain, which doesn't match with my skills or interests. Any tips?

Changing domains is kinda hard. We all do vastly different work. Which domain are you and what is your skill set?

They have allotted me Data and AI domain. I think it will be most likely Business Intelligence or SQL work (not communicated yet). I have spent my whole education working on building apps, websites using JavaScript, Java, PHP, Golang, Angular. It was fine if they had given me a "App" domain profile ( developer kind). I was thinking maybe I will jump to Associate PjM in 3-4 months after joining. What do you think?

Yeah Modern Apps seems more up your alley. Maybe talk to your manager to see what they suggest. Jumping to a PjM isn't a bad idea if that's what you want to do. You have options. I would start with your manager and just let them know where you're at and go from there. They may suggest you apply for an open req on a modern apps team internally. Who knows. That's an interesting conundrum though

I am new to corporate life, not joined yet. My manager is most likely a lady. Not sure when and how to ask. I fear she might not like a experienceless new grad joinee wants to exit her team as soon as he joined.

What do you think, which is the best time to approach my manager...? Also how many people are generally under a Technical Delivery Manager?

"tech scene" includes a lot of different jobs. What exactly do you do? Do you have a clearance?

Or apply for government jobs if you don't ever plan to leave the DC area. Benefits are good and stability, plus most Govs end up doing some kind of project management

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW... Just kidding. Maybe there are a lot of tech companies in North Virginia to work for and Amazon is expanding there?

If you want to do project management, you can pretty much do that anywhere. The area is dominated by the large government contracting/consulting firms like BAH, Deloitte, Accenture, PWC, KPMG.
