Can a colleague ask you to not wear heels as they make noise when you walk?

Google women’s formal shoes. You’ll get your answer

No, I want to hear your reason why. Why wear makeup, heels etc. I don't do any of that. What's the purpose of makeup if we're at this topic, too?

There are plenty of formal shoes for women that are not heels.

Be considerate to others. Stop wearing heels if you have to walk on concrete or wooden floors and make that annoying sound.

Would the coworker ask the same of a man in boots with wooden heels? Is the coworker a man? I sense a power play.

Yeah why not, same as if you were talking loudly or had music playing or had a loud fan or really squeaky shoes. You don't have to do anything though.

Gift them a pair of headphones.

  • You don’t have to do anything different.

It is possible this employee has misophonia. In which case he should get headphones. If you are doing a lot of running around at work, it might be annoying other people too- so just be aware of it. In the same way anyone would be aware of the noises they make at work so as not to bother colleagues.

I personally get annoyed at the sound of my own shoes sometimes in a quiet space. So I get it.

  • Co-workers can ask whatever they like. But it's illegal for a superior to penalize you in any way for not confirming to their own gender ideals whether that means wearing heels or not wearing heels regardless of your actual or perceived gender. The Supreme Court ruled on this decisively like two decades ago.

    Maybe not.
But they can really ask you to avoid wearing shoes that make noise.
If you know you are making noise, please take steps to reduce them.

You can also go all pissy about it and complain to HR.

No. You can ask the office that they install carpet, you can wear headphones.
